FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gagetown plays host to Black Knight regional squash championships
Fredericton
, N.B. February 24, 2007
The courts of CFB Base Gagetown played host to the
2007 edition of the Black Knight Provincial squash regional’s.
This open invitational squash tournament drew players from
throughout
New Brunswick
and
Nova Scotia
. The competition was held over the weekend in a two day bracket style
championship.
47 of the areas top players competed to decide
champions in each of the Mens A, B, C and D divisions.
The Black Knight Gagetown open marks the 4th points
tournament of the year on the Squash N.B. schedule and continues to
remain one of the most popular events of the squash season.
Results were as follows:
Josh Rudolph prevailed once again in Mens A with a decisive, but
hard fought victory over fellow Frederictonian Mike Ladha in 3 games in
their best of five final. Rudolph
showed some more of the same fine form that saw him to an N.B. Closed
championship just 3 weeks ago. In
the Mens B final, Craig Stairs, also of Fredericton cruised to a 3-0
victory over Roger Levesque to capture his second straight Men’s B
title in the last 4 weeks; Levesque, coming off of a very hard fought 5
game match in the semi-final had little left in the tank for his final
match of the day. In Mens C
and Mens D action the father and son tandem of Rob and Andrew Wight of
Halifax
came away with top honours respectively.
Rob pulled out the C Division win over Darrell Stewart of the
host club While
son Andrew squeaked out a very narrow victory over Alan Howie of
Fredericton
in a full 5 game marathon to capture the Mens D crown.
The next event on the Squash NB schedule is the
Campbleton Open slated for the 16th and 17th of
March 2007.
